SSHL
REFERENCE DESK
Prepared

Updated October 2006
On days when both
the Information and SSHL reference desks are single-staffed breaks will need
to be staggered amongst the Information and Reference desk staff members. Staff
members will inform one another as to when they would prefer to take their break(s)
and lunch/dinner break.
When the Information
Desk Staff member takes a break:
-
The Information Desk staff member will indicate the time when s/he will be
returning to the Information Desk on the "clock" sign and place
it on the Information Desk along with the "Temporarily closed…"
sign.
- S/he will notify
the Circulation and the SSHL reference desks that s/he is taking a break or
lunch/dinner break, and when s/he will be returning to the desk.
- S/he will forward
the Information Desk telephone calls to the SSHL reference desk telephone.
- When s/he returns
from break s/he will inform the Circulation and SSHL reference desks.
- S/he will remove
the above mentioned signs and cancel the call forwarding.
When the SSHL
Reference Desk member takes a break:
- The Reference
Desk staff member will indicate the time s/he will be returning to the reference
desk on the "clock" sign and place it on the reference desk.
- S/he will notify
the Information and CPNM desks that s/he is taking a break or lunch/dinner
break, and when s/he will be returning to the desk.
NOTE: While the
Reference Desk is closed, the Information Desk staff member will not forward
calls to the Reference Desk. If calls come directly to the Reference Desk,
the calls will automatically forward to voicemail. To access the reference desk voicemail, key in the last five digits of the telephone number: 20450.
- When s/he returns
from break s/he will inform the Information and CPNM desks.
- S/he will remove
the above mentioned sign.
