Policy regarding SSHL patron printing and computer use.

Use of the Superstation and Productivity workstations are limited to 30 minutes if others are waiting. Priority is given to those conducting research over recreational or commercial use. These computers may be used to reformat and print documents, but lengthy word processing should be done in the ACS lab.

1. If a patron asks where they can do word processing what shall we tell them?

Ask if the patron is a UCSD student, faculty, or staff person. If s/he is then refer them to the Academic Computing Services (ACS) lab downstairs or to other labs on campus to do word processing. Tell them that they need a laser printing account to print in the ACS labs.

2. What if the patron is not a UCSD student, faculty, or staff, where shall we send them to do word processing and printing?

If the patron is not a UCSD student, faculty, or staff, then they are not eligible for a laser printing account. These patrons can print from any Infostation and can word process and format documents at the 5 Productivity Workstations or the Superstation. The 30 minute time limit may be enforced if multiple patrons request use of the Workstations or Superstation.

6. What if the patron attempts to print from an Infostation and it doesn't work, what shall we do?

If the problem appears to be a printer malfunction (jam, out of paper, etc), contact Imprints. Otherwise, ask the patron to move to a different Infostation; then note the Infostation number and report the problem to Dan Suchy.
