High Use Items in Reference
Description: The High Use Table (HUT) serves to facilitate access to heavily used reference items. Any librarian may designate “high use” items to support a particular course or assignment as needed.
Procedures:
- To place identified materials on the HUT, give the SSHL Reference Collection Manager (RCM) a list of items designated High Use for a specific class.
- The RCM will pull identified materials from the collection, temporarily change the Roger record location code to High Use Table for the quarter, and place these on the High Use Table with color coded labels that reflect the course name and High Use. Appropriate course signage will also be placed on the HUT.
- If the HUT is needed on a regular basis for any given course, the RCM will create an Excel spreadsheet listing items by title, call number, and academic quarter that they are needed. Additional HUT items identified for the course will be added to the spreadsheet on an on-going basis.
- Librarians notify RLT of the HUT items, course assignment, and may place an electronic copy of the spreadsheet/High Use Table items in the shared Ref Desk Group Wise folder as needed. A course-specific folder containing this information, can also be created for the physical Ref Desk.
- At the end of the quarter, the RCM will remove HUT items, change the Roger record location code back, and ensure that items are reshelved.
