Guidelines for use of the “Tools” fund The “tools” fund is a subset of collections funds that is tracked by the Acquisitions Department. Within SSHL, the funds are designated to purchase materials to assist Research Services staff members perform their primary job responsibilities. Typical requests may range from the print LC Classification Outline to dictionaries. Requests that duplicate items held in the collection are generally not approved. Requests for desktop applications, software, html editors, and related items are not eligible for “tools” funding and should be discussed with the direct supervisor to identify an appropriate funding source, such as Departmental funds. Requests for “tools” should be submitted to the direct supervisor for approval and the supervisor should forward the order to the Acquisitions Department. “Tools” will be cataloged and the records suppressed in order to allow us to identify those already held and for purposes of the UCSD audit trail.
