Information Desk Specialist Traning Home - Miscellaneous Information
Sometimes you may be asked to give a tour of the library. Often, the person making the request provides guidelines or a sample script for you to follow. If not, the sample script in this section or the information in the self-guided tour should work for you.
Statistics are kept on information and outreach activities so you’ll want to find out whether you need to turn in a total of the number of people on your tour.
Patrons may come to the Information Desk to ask if they may film in the library or you may notice people using cameras. Following this page are the official guidelines on what is permitted. Generally, a couple of tourist snapshots are okay as long as the person is not photographing other patrons or disrupting anything. If it’s more extensive than a couple of snapshots, it’s best to notify security and they can determine whether further action is needed.
There are a variety of tasks involved in maintaining the Information Desk and each quarter they are divided among the staff.

In the InfoPath section, you were shown the online form where UCSD affiliates register their wireless network cards. In addition, there are temporary passwords for campus visitors (or for affiliates when online registration isn’t working). Currently, these passwords (technically “guest wireless accounts”) are available at the Information Desk and at SSH Circulation.
Visitors may also obtain temporary passwords at ACS/Network Operations - Applied Physics and Mathematics building (Muir campus) room 1313 or at The Art of Espresso - a coffee cart located on the south side of Mandeville Auditorium.
The wireless passwords expire at the end of the month they are activated. They are not renewable but patrons can obtain another guest account by contacting ACS by phone (534-1857) or email (userserv@ucsd.edu).
