Reserves: Placing an Item on Reserve
There are several ways to place items on reserves:
- E-mail to reserves@ucsd.edu
- Fill out the on-line form
- Fax a reserves reading list form to x 4-1210
- Campus mail a reserves reading list form to 0175-L, Attn: Course Reserves
- Submit a reserves reading list form in person at the SSHL circulation desk.
The information you will need to provide:
- Name of class as indicated in the class schedule (e.g. HIUS 121A)
- Title of class (Introduction to....)
- Professor’s name, campus phone number, campus mailcode, and e-mail
- Number of students (to gauge the number of copies needed for the class)
- The title and author of the material (Please be as specific as possible to ensure we obtain the correct item. If a specific translation or edition is needed, please indicate that in your request)
Who will provide the materials?
If the library does not own an item which you would like to request, it is possible to put personal copies on reserve. We will take personal copies as well as photocopies and return them at the end of the quarter (for more information on submitting photocopies please click on Placing Photocopies on Reserve). We will also purchase items from the UCSD Bookstore or from Groundwork Books if they will enhance the library’s collection. If an item needs to be special ordered, please be aware that this can take several weeks. We recommend that you submit a personal copy of an item if it is not available at the bookstore or Groundwork Books or submit your request early.
How long does it take to place materials?
Please allow us a few of days to process your material. Although it is never too late to put something on reserve for a class, deadlines are set. to see the deadlines please click on Reserves Request Deadlines. Each quarter 2 weeks (3 weeks for the winter quarter) prior to the first day of instruction if you want to guarantee that everything will be up on the day instruction begins.
Please Note:Please keep in mind that late submissions will be processed in the order we receive them, and there is a very good chance that students will check out the items being requested before we are able to pull them for the reserves collection if they are requested late. Recalling material from students will greatly affect our ability to process a request promptly.
