Meeting Summary

Announcements:

Tony - Acquisitions staff will begin to use GOBI Export this week. In 4-6 weeks we will begin seeing shelf-ready for form selections. Approximately 90% of SSH materials will be shelf-ready.

Stacy – A drug interaction database is now included as part of “Medical Letter”

Harold – JSTOR Arts & Sciences V (120 titles) and Business II (and will continue to grow) are now available to the UCs. Tony will check with CDL to make sure we really have access to all these titles.

Martha – JSTOR wishes to expand coverage of philosophy titles, especially foreign language materials. They are interested in getting our input to identify priority titles.

Lynda – Two major acquisitions for MSCL; Papers of Stanley Miller (UCSD Chemistry faculty), know for his work on the origin of life. Funds were designated in his will to help support processing. MSCL is also receiving the family archive of Ephram Morse, an early founder of San Diego. Plans include digitizing these materials and to undertake a joint project with the SD Historical Society (who also holds some materials) to make a digital version of the archive available to the public.

Leslie – Ken Calkins is now the Art Libraries Collections Coordinator. The Arts Libraries will be receiving significant portions of the SDMCA (San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art) Library collection, including strong holdings in contemporary art exhibition catalogs.

Dan – “Trade Statistics” now online and accessible to us.

Elliot – "Gallup Brain" (archives of the Gallup Poll back to 1936) now online and accessible to us.

Updates:

Collection Coordinators Group (Harold reporting for Sam):

  1. JSTOR will be rescanning approximately 500 volumes and has asked CDL for access to these volumes. Goal is to provide better quality scans (images, etc)
  2. Elsevier backfile supplement proposal is being discussed. 250 titles, mostly science and economics, one-time purchase for $90,000.00
  3. Taylor and Francis shared print archive discussion, looking at CRL (vs. the RLFs). Soon a call to cancel print, and add new titles will be made. A list of new titles is on their website, currently UCs have free access to new titles until January 2008. Reminder that CDL subscribes to “Scholar Statistics” to track use statistics (see “Inside CDL”)
  4. CCG will now have responsibility for approving funds for databases, etc. CMG will no longer exist.
  5. CCG is looking at gifts policy, and other policies related to collections.
