Draft guidelines for discussion with VAD authors

Jackie described the background of the Collection Management Group's interest in the VAD and its attempts to develop a common view of our organizational and individual roles in the Portal project. The bibliographers discussed the draft guidelines, including the following issues: the individual bibliographer's responsibility for checking links, the tasks that can be delegated and to whom, the need to correct spelling and grammatical errors in existing VAD entries, the responsibility of bibliographers not to add inappropriate sites, and the need for subject areas to be assigned to specific bibliographers. Elliot distributed a sample of a subject area and a list of subject responsibilities by bibliographer. Jackie will use issues brought up in the discussion today to revise the Portal guidelines for VAD authors.

Current budget allocations in the SSH cluster collections

Jackie asked if the group had thoughts about adjustments to existing allocations, new campus programs affecting budgets, and priorities for new funding if it becomes available. Suggestions included the importance of adding a cost of living increase to all funds if new funds become available, evaluating any increases in serials' costs that will affect budgets, and the need for additional funding in specific areas. These included religious studies, gender and ethnic studies, Chinese studies, GIS, environmental studies, and immigration studies.

"Little z" reclass project

Sam announced that the Catalog Department is beginning this project with the 3500 volumes in the SSHL reference collection and plans also to complete the reclassification of the more than 60,000 affected titles in the rest of Geisel.

Transfers from SSHL reference to the first floor

As part of the reconstruction of Research Services, the NUCs and G.K. Hall publications will be transferred to the first floor. A new location will be entered on Roger to reflect this relocation.
