Announcements

S. Dunlap reminded bibliographers to review the Annex "Z" boolean printouts for both monographs and serials. The lists are staged in the Review Room.

S. Dunlap led a general group discussion surrounding space constraints in the stacks and at the Annex, ever-increasing need for student study space, on-site versus shared UC-wide collections, and how these issues intersect with offers to UCSD of large gift collections. S. Dunlap urged bibliographers to consult with him when offers of gift collections occur.

J. Hanson announced that 57 requests for special funding had been received (44 from the SSH Cluster), far surpassing the available funds. The special purchase proposals will be returned to collection coordinators who, in turn, will work with the subject bibliographers to prioritize or further refine the proposals.

J. Hanson announced an opportunity for creative collaboration between bibliographers, the Library of Congress, and the San Diego Supercomputer Center. The Library of Congress is pursuing a collaborative effort with their "American Memory: Historical Collections for the National Digital Library" and the SDSC. The project entails creating downloadable component wrappers from the American Memory Collection that would be usable as teaching modules. Bibliographers could enlist interested faculty to participate in creating packages that they could realistically incorporate into their teaching. Dawn Talbot serves as the Library Liaison to the SDSC and she returns from vacation on December 3. Bibliographers should contact Dawn for more information and to express their interest in participation with this project.
