SSHL
Cluster Bibliographers Meeting
Price Center
Berkeley Room
10 October
2001
Present: S. Dunlap (convener and recorder), L. Abrams, E. Kanter, A. Perez, K. Lindvall-Larson, K. Creely, V. Williamson, L. Cruse, S. Isozumi
V. Williamson requested volunteers to provide tours of Geisel Library during the Open House on October 20.
S. Dunlap noted that Allie Emigh-Carr will post meeting summaries to the "libnet" site and the September minutes remain to be posted. All SSH Cluster Bibliographers now have access to the meeting summaries.
S. Dunlap requested a volunteer to serve for one year as collections co-coordinator, due to an unusually busy year with CAPA. This person would assist with a variety of collections issues such as staging the Annex Zs for review, downloading innopac patron requests for distribution to appropriate bibliographers, working with Yankee slips, and fine-tuning the Yankee approval plan. Interested parties should e-mail Dunlap.
S. Dunlap noted that old "Gift Acceptance Guidelines" date back to 1985. The Acquisitions Department maintains the only current policy. We should be careful when accepting or declining gift offers and should base our decisions on UCSD's current programmatic and research needs. General discussion followed.
V. Williamson described the contents of the database and distributed the list of publications included. The SSH Cluster Bibs endorsed it for purchase, possibly as a Tier 2 acquisition.
S. Dunlap announced that Reserves volumes not selected for transfer to SSH Cluster locations will be sent to UC Merced.
S. Dunlap announced that Ryan Finnerty had confirmed that the Annex Weeding Project materials will not fall into this category. Annex volumes selected for transfer to the SRLF will be sent as part of our regularly-scheduled shipments and be processed upon receipt. The "irretrievable backlog" consists of superceded SSH Reference titles, S&E materials, and volumes from the Arce and Vucinich collections.
L. Abrams announced a plan to extend and enhance the use of images for curricular support by providing access to digital versions of AAL slides. She described the goals and timetable for the project and asked for a volunteer to assist the group as needed. Volunteers may contact Abrams or one of the co-chairs of the planning team: V. O'Riordan and C. Stuart.
S. Dunlap reminded the bibliographers to try to attend this meeting. We then discussed two questions: 1) Are SSH Cluster needs being met? and 2) Are SSH Cluster subjects adequately represented in SAGE? Some subject pages present many "featured sites" while others present only one or two. E. Kanter reminded bibliographers that customized text may be put into our subject pages.
Next meeting: November 14, 9-10am, in the Price Center Berkeley Room
