1. Announcements
- Profile with fund codes.
- Tony announced that approximately 12% of the default fund codes are changed by bibliographers to another fund. He will work with us and YBP to adjust the profile.
- Fund activity reports online
- Tony announced that the fund information containing individual titles and charges is available online. Bibliographers have a fiduciary responsibility to monitor fund checks and balances. A printed fiscal close report will continue to come to us each year.
- Shared Library Facilities Board Report
- Sam, in his role as LAUC Representative to the SLF Board, announced that he had submitted his Report of the February meeting to Terry Huwe for distribution to the membership.
- Scholarly Communication
- Rob announced that one task of the Scholarly Communication Task Force is to develop a website and asked us to provide questions or topics that should be of interest to our faculty and should be addressed.
- UCSD rankings
- Sam distributed the UCSD news release summarizing the April 1 rankings of graduate programs by the U.S. News and World Report. UCSD excels in the areas of political science, economics, psychology and sociology. From the humanities, we are noted for Latin American and Asian history. Fine arts rankings were conducted in 2002.
2. Updates:
- Blackwell TOC proposal
- Sam distributed a copy of the Request for Blackwell Table of Contents Enrichment Service
- Format migration progress during 2005-2006
- Sam distributed copies of format migration cancellations effective January 2005 and January 2006. This information was shared with the Academic Senate Committee on Library. Sam has recently received the list of Springer titles that are migrating to online and will forward it to the Cluster for informational purposes. A list of Sage titles is in the works and should be available soon.
- Highlights from the March 18 meeting of the Collection Coordinators Group
- Sam summarized the topics which included format migration next packages, if a print archive is in place by May 2005 ( Cambridge, Project Muse); accompanying CD-ROMs, an OCLC WorldCat collection analysis tool, and Tony’s shelf ready proposal.
- CD-ROM retrospective weeding project (part 1): accompanying CD-ROMs
- Ryan reported that the accompanying CD-ROMs designated “withdraw” have been withdrawn. The Circulation Committee still has to meet and endorse the recommendation and CMG must approve funding request to complete the project. In the future, bibliographers should put a “notify” flag with the book/CD-ROM, should the items be housed separately. Sam will meet with Circulation staff to work out SSH-specific post-processing changes to bibliographic records, labeling, etc.
3. Discussion:
- CD-ROM retrospective weeding project (part 2): stand-alone CD-ROMs
- Kathy and Elliot distributed printouts by subject or bibliographer for retention decisions. The default option will be to leave in Con Circ. Bibliographers may choose to withdraw the titles or transfer to another location.
- New Books lists in Roger
- Susan asked how long “new” title lists should remain in Roger. The group decided to run lists quarterly. Susan will delete the old lists. She will schedule training session in LEC to show bibliographers how to run the lists.
- Harvard Lampoon (fwd by Paul Harris)
- Sam followed-up a patron request to obtain this journal. There was no interest in doing so.
- YBP “Shelf ready” service
- Tony outlined a proposal to being YPB’s shelf-ready service for titles with LC copy, the most mainstream of titles. Because normal processing of SSH Cluster titles takes six weeks, he anticipates that titles would get to the shelf faster than is currently the case. This takes into account the additional two weeks for YBP processing and a one-week review period.
- Draft document: UCSD-Initiated Trial of a New Electronic Resource
- Sam summarized the many requests for new (or migrating) electronic resources and database trials that are various stages in the review or workflow process: Westlaw Campus, Thesaurus Linguae Graecae, Old Testament Abstracts, Index to Jewish Periodicals, GLBT Life, International Encyclopedia of Social & Behavioral Sciences, AnthroSource, Factiva, Business Special Collection, Hoover’s Company Information, Snapshot International Series-North America. He distributed a document outlining suggested workflow considerations, including prior discussion with the Collection Coordinator, publicizing the resource(s), and using the Acquisition Department’s Electronic Resource Management tool to send out tickler notifications and reasons for or against initiating a UCSD subscription.
- Debrief from the morning’s JSTOR Print Archive presentation, if needed
- The group agreed that the presentation by Colleen Carlton (SRLF Director) and Jeff Sundqvist (UC Shared Print Librarian) was informative and that it is good to finally see the Archive moving forward.
Next meeting: June 8, San Francisco / Santa Cruz Room
