Cataloging

After the one-week review period, volumes enter the Metadata Services Department (MSD) workflow and take approximately six weeks to reach the shelf.

The SSH Cluster subscribes to the YBP Shelf Ready service. A subset of volumes arrive with property stamps, spine labels, and security strips. These shelf-ready volumes bypass the routine workflow in MSD and are sent to locations in Geisel Library after the one-week review period. Currently the program is limited to monographs, excluding those titles profiled for Art and Architecture, that have full Library of Congress cataloging available at the time of shipment. Collection managers should review the books for special location decisions such as IR/PS or SSHL Reference.

Collection Coordinators may request the MSD make additional cataloging enhancement to records such as author or corporate name added entries or collection notes, such as “Melanesian Collection.” In addition, we may identify Internet resources to request for cataloging.
