IntroductionThis Toolkit is designed to support collection development for the SSH Cluster Bibliographers Group. This Group consists of members of the SSH Cluster libraries (AAL, FVL, IR/PS, MDSC, Music, and SSHL) who purchase materials for Geisel Library in all formats and in support of research and instruction in the social sciences, arts and humanities. The Group's primary focus is with all aspects of collection development and management. This includes discussions and decisions on new services, CDL-related projects, collection weeding and relocation, format migration, and other issues related to creating a robust and dynamic collection to serve the evolving needs of UCSD faculty and students. The Toolkit brings together a variety of information into one location. The Toolkit is a dynamic, changing and changeable resource. It provides an overview of UCSD’s collection development practices and answers day-to-day procedural questions. It serves as a reference resource for Collection Managers in all disciplines in support of our wide-ranging collections work and interactions with the Acquisitions and Metadata Services Departments. We should expect the Toolkit to be updated periodically. Please send me your suggestions for ways to expand and enhance the contents. Sam Dunlap, Convener,
